Wordle hints (game #1352) – clue #1 – Vowels

How many vowels does today’s Wordle have?

Wordle today has vowels in two places*.

* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).

Wordle hints (game #1352) – clue #2 – first letter

What letter does today’s Wordle begin with?

The first letter in today’s Wordle answer is D.

D is the ninth most common starting letter in the game, so maybe slightly less likely than you might expect.

Wordle hints (game #1352) – clue #3 – repeated letters

Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?

There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle.

Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

Wordle hints (game #1352) – clue #4 – ending letter

What letter does today’s Wordle end with?

The last letter in today’s Wordle is Y.

Y is the second most common ending letter in the game, behind only E. In total, 364 Wordle answers end with a Y.

Wordle hints (game #1352) – clue #5 – last chance

Today’s Wordle answer (game #1352)

  • NYT average score: 3.9
  • My score: 3
  • WordleBot’s score: 4
  • My start word performance: STEAK (159 remaining answers)
  • WordleBot’s start word performance: CRANE (273)

Today’s Wordle answer (game #1352) is… DEITY.

I don’t beat WordleBot as often as I’d like. In the past two weeks, I’ve only bested the ‘Bot four times, drawing another four and losing six. So I’m celebrating today, having triumphed twice in a row, and with very different challenges.

Where yesterday’s HOVER was a difficult game with an average of 4.7, today’s is far more approachable. The ‘Bot says people are solving it in 3.9, which is right in the middle of the range and which reflects the absence of any of the typical complicating factors.

There’s no ER aspect today, of course, nor any uncommon or repeated letters. It isn’t even spelled in a similar way to lots of other words. The most challenging thing about it is probably that there are so few words with an EI pattern in the middle; it’s not a format you’d generally consider.

In fact, there are only 10 Wordle words that have an E and I together in the second and third places. EA and OU, in contrast, each appear together there in 42 games.

Still, 3.9 implies that it’s not super tough either. A good first guess will have helped. Or rather, a lucky first guess, because the results for the best Wordle start words were mixed. CRANE, for instance, left 273 options, but SLATE at 13 was much better. The pick of the top 20 was TRICE (six), but far more relevant to the average is the fact that ADIEU – the most popular of all start words – left only 14.

My start word today was STEAK, which is a pretty decent word aside from the K (I’d have preferred STEAL or STEAM). That left 159 words and gave me two yellows to play with on the next guess.

Where to put them? Well, T is most common at the end of an answer, but usually when paired with S – and that was already ruled out. Plus, E is even more common at the end. So I moved the T to the start and played TRICE.

I’ve already mentioned TRICE above, because it left only six answers on the first guess. On my second, it cut the pool to a mere three: QUIET, DEITY and FEINT.

Any of the three was guaranteed to leave me a four at worst, so there was no advantage in playing another narrowing-down word. Instead I was free to choose my favorite.

I was never going to go with QUIET, due to that Q; no, probability wouldn’t come into it at this stage, because all three words were equally likely – but I wasn’t certain that I hadn’t missed some options, so playing more common letters made sense.

I could have gone either way between the other two. After a little deliberation I picked DEITY and scored a welcome three.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #1351)

In a different time zone where it’s still Saturday? Don’t worry – I can give you some clues for Wordle #1351, too.

  • Wordle yesterday had vowels in two places.

* Note that by vowel we mean the five standard vowels (A, E, I, O, U), not Y (which is sometimes counted as a vowel too).

  • The first letter in yesterday’s Wordle answer was H.

H is not a particularly common starting letter in Wordle: only 69 games begin with it, and it ranks in 15th place.

  • There were no repeated letters in yesterday’s Wordle.

Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

  • The last letter in yesterday’s Wordle was R.

R is a very common letter to end a Wordle answer – it’s actually the 4th most common there, behind E, Y and T.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #1351)

  • NYT average score: 4.7
  • My score: 4
  • WordleBot’s score: 5
  • My start word performance: ROWDY (58 remaining answers)
  • WordleBot’s start word performance: CRANE (191)

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #1351) was… HOVER.

While Friday’s game served up an uncommon challenge in the form of a repeated Z, yesterday’s is much more familiar: it’s an ER word.

It’s only slightly easier, though, with an average score of 4.7 indicating that it’s keeping people on their toes. That V in the middle will not have helped – as my analysis of every Wordle answer shows, it’s the fifth least common letter in the game.

But the difficulty of finding a V is nothing compared to that created by the ER ending, which is simply so numerous that it makes it near-impossible to narrow down the options.

Most of the best Wordle start words were a bust yesterday; none of the top 20 dipped below 100 possible solutions. Instead, this became a rare day in which my randomly chosen opener outperformed the big guns. ROWDY would be no better than decent in a normal day, but here it gave me a green O and yellow R that immediately pointed me towards that ER format.

I went with SANER, reasoning that there was no need to include the O again and that I’d be better off gaining info about another letter, just in case it wasn’t an ER word. But it was: the E and R turned green, the S, A and N were ruled out, and I now had a dozen words to pick from.

Somehow, I came up with all of them: VOTER, MOPER, HOVER, GOFER, COVER, LOVER, MOVER, POKER, JOKER, BOXER, CORER and HOMER. But I knew that several had been past Wordle answers, and without needing to look at a list – POKER, JOKER, BOXER, CORER and HOMER were all obvious repeats simply because they were so memorable as difficult answers.

That left me with seven genuine options, then – although really it only left four, because I realized afterwards that VOTER, COVER and LOVER had also all been past answers.

I didn’t know that at the time of course, and instead played CHIMP in order to give me the best shot at a four. When then H turned yellow that left HOVER as the only solution, so I escaped with a four. And better still, WordleBot had to settle for a five. Nice!

What is Wordle?

If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2024.

We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.

What is Wordle?

Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?

It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.

Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.

What are the Wordle rules?

The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.

1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.

2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.

3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.

4. Answers are never plural.

5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.

6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.

7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.

8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.

9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.

10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…

11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
