Lengthy GameStop hack may have compromised customer credit cards, personal info

Gamers may have paid a higher price than they expected when buying goods from GameStop over the holidays. Independent security reporter Brian Krebs says sources in the financial industry are receiving alerts that GameStop.com was “likely compromised by intruders between mid-September 2016 and the first week of February 2017.”

GameStop confirmed to Krebs on Friday that it was investigating a possible breach. The company hired a third-party security company to lead the investigation. The security breach reportedly affects GameStop.com only, and not the systems of the company’s physical retail stores.
