Sales rep for a big software company arrives at this government agency to make his pitch for a child-support collections system -- but he's taken aback when an agency director walks in late and puts a tape recorder on the table, reports an IT pilot fish on the scene.

"This director was legally blind," says fish. "She wore pop-bottle-thick eyeglasses and read reports by holding them literally right in front of her nose. She and her staff joked about how she frequently had toner smeared on her nose because of it.

"When she turned on the tape recorder, the salesman came to a dead halt in his spiel and looked at it in horror. She said sweetly, 'You don't mind if I record this, do you? Being blind, I can't take notes like my staff does.'"
